Yeah, this is a weak attempt at humor, but you have seen customers like this. They likely are all about the technology and not about the business. They spend their time at trade shows checking out all the bleeding edge stuff. It is unlikely their company will let them buy that stuff, but it sure gets them excited.
Depending on the industry you are in, this rule may make more or less sense. Yes, there are some big decision makers that also collect trinkets from vendors and trade shows. However, seeing these things should be a clue to you to ask some good qualification questions.
If they aren’t a decision maker, use this person to gain access to a real decision maker and those that have authority to make things happen.
